Stroke Program
West Florida Rehabilitation Institute has a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed to maximize the patient’s and family’s recovery from stroke. An early program of rehabilitation following a stroke enhances the patient’s quality of life.
The purpose of rehabilitation is to assist each individual to achieve a maximum level of independence. A multidisciplinary team develops an individualized rehabilitation plan with input from the patient and family. There is a strong educational component to the program so that individuals and their families learn not only “how to,” but also “why.”
At the Rehabilitation Institute, the Stroke Program is carried out by a team of healthcare professionals who work closely with the patient and family to make social, psychological, and physical adjustments to the stroke.
Regular team conferences assure that a coordinated approach is taken with the patient’s program. Rehabilitation is a process of continuous learning. Ongoing patient and family education, training and practice are an integral part of the rehabilitation process.
The stroke program at the Rehabilitation Institute has discharged 72% of the patients back to their homes, which is greater than regional and national averages. Patient satisfaction with our program is greater than 90%.
