About Mark G. Stavros
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Stavros earned his Medical Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. In addition, Dr. Stavros has earned Diplomate status by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Stavros has more than 22 years of experience in the field of Emergency Medicine in both clinical and administrative/leadership roles at hospitals in Florida, Mississippi and Ohio. For 15 of those years, he practiced at West Florida Hospital as an Emergency Department physician where he also served as Assistant Medical Director.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dr. Stavros attained the rank of Major before his honorable discharge in 2000. During his tenure at Eglin AFB Regional Hospital, he practiced as an Emergency Department Attending Physician and a member of the faculty. He also served in leadership roles in the department as Assistant Medical Director of Emergency Services and later as Medical Director of Emergency Services.
For the past 13 years, Dr. Stavros has been involved with the Florida State University College of Medicine's Pensacola Regional Campus, where he has served as Emergency Medicine Education Director, Clerkship Director and Faculty Advisor for Emergency Medicine. In 2008, he earned the Outstanding Clinical Preceptor Award.
Dr. Stavros also has experience with local Emergency Medical Services organizations, including serving as Medical Director for Pensacola State College's EMT/Paramedic Program and as a Flight Physician for a local air ambulance service. Dr Stavros is also Vice President of Excalibur Telemedical Services and has been an advocate for telemedicine on a state, national, and international level.
Dr. Stavros has been involved in research projects and has been published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine and Air Medical Journal. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is an Advance Trauma Life Support Instructor/Provider as well as an International Trauma Life Support Instructor/Provider.
He has also been active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of Big Bend Community Based Care and participating in medical mission trips to Honduras, Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic and Panama.
